Warm Hellos and Goodbyes

Hello, friends!

I hope this beautiful weekend finds you well — and hello if you’re new this week. I’ve written before about this topic, and it’s an idea I learned from Gretchen Rubin, American author.

She talks about how important it is to give your people warm hellos and goodbyes.

We’ve got a lot of young people traipsing through our house—which I love and have always loved. We’re the ‘stay for dinner, I made cookies, yes, you can sleep over, pull out the barbecue at 10pm’ family and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

And though it’s kind of not my style, a few months ago I stuck this little sign up on the inside of the front door, to remind all those who pass here exactly what we think of them.

You should have seen the grins.

A bit of blue tack, a bit of fun, and everyone who walks out into the world feels loved.

I’ve even whispered it to myself when I leave. ‘Love you, bye!’ has become a little talisman, a wish that we’ll all be together soon.

So this is where I tell you MY news….

I need a rest, and I’ve given myself permission to take one.

Between full time work, a busy year launching The Bittersweet Bakery Cafe, working on a new book and spending time with family, I’m a little too tired…the kind of tired where I need to rationalise a few things in my work life…so I’m going to pause these Sunday updates until I have the space and energy to give good things to friends near and far.

The world is full of beautiful writers, and I know you’ll all be just fine. 🩷

I’ll be back again, probably in the lead-up to Christmas, to share a little more of what I love.

Happy Sunday, and I hope you’re doing well! (And I hope if you need to rest, you’ll take the time to do exactly that.)

Love, Catherine x

P.S. The Fun Stuff!

  • The viral handbag from Kmart is so darn fabulous. Selling very fast! The studs make it super cute. Young women would like it for Christmas!

  • Looking for a bikini for the season. We’re in and out of the pool so much that they’re easier than a one piece. This one looks promising—more coverage? Let me know if you’ve found a good option!

  • I keep seeing these floating single flower vases (photo here is terrible, sorry) but I’m entranced! How pretty would it look as a centrepiece?

  • My books are all here, if you’d like to hear a little more from me.

  • My Love you, bye! sign — it’s wood, and I just stuck it up with Blue Tack. (Love you, bye! x)
